Elk & Buffalo Burger, THAT Brewery, Pine AZ

Situated in Arizona's magnificent Mogollon Rim Country, THAT Brewery is a welcome respite for visitors and locals alike. And this Pacific Northwest visitor is happily and hungrily staring at a magnificent burger: THAT's Elk and Buffalo Burger.
Elk Buffalo Burger
What you get is a 1/3 pound of elk and buffalo patty served on a toasted pretzel bun. I added a slice of swiss cheese to top off the sandwich. The burger comes with the usual lettuce, tomato, onion and pickle slices. For the side, I chose the crispy skinny fries.

The elk and buffalo burger is lean and meaty and not as juicy as the regular beef burger you are accustomed to. With the leaner cut of meat, you tend to take smaller bites and chew longer, enjoying the savory taste of more of a game animal experience than a domestic burger. I would recommend to add a slice of cheese to complement the meat. THAT's burger turned out to be a tasty treat.

I chose the brewery's flagship beer, the Amber. This lower alcohol brew drank down easily, with a mild body and medium hoppiness to the taste buds. The Amber is not a heavy beer, so it would go well with the Elk and Buffalo burger.

THAT Brewery is a popular destination for visitors to drop by while touring the Mogollon Rim. The outdoor patio is pleasant to sit in after a day of hiking. Also, a big plus is that the brewpub is kid and dog friendly.

For AZ Trail hikers, get off the trail at Highway 87, turn right, and in a few minutes walk you are at the brewpub. Enjoy.
