Tiramisu, Steamworks Brewing Co., Vancouver, B.C.

For dessert, my hiking friend and I took a short walk from Yaletown to Steamworks Brewing Co, in Vancouver's historic Gastown district. Since I wanted a light, sweet dessert along with a rich brew, I chose the delectable tiramisu along with the house porter.

The made-in-house tiramisu is made with espresso soaked lady fingers, a rich chocolate sauce, and topped with a dusting of cocoa powder. The effect was a subtle concoction of sweetness and was light and pleasing. Not too rich and not  too sweet.

For my brew, I chose Steamworks' Coal Porter. This ale came as a smooth, thick and rich drink, with the light bitter-sweetness that porters are known. The porter was easy sippin', a perfect complement to the tiramisu.

Steamworks Brewing got its name from the famous Gastown steam line that runs through the brewpub. It is located on the waterfront, overlooking Coal Harbor. In the summer months, you can sit outside and have the harbor as your landscape as you eat and drink your way to a blissful  Vancouver evening. Enjoy.
