Wild Boar Tacos, Alameda Brew House,Portland OR

I met my hiking friend, Roger, for a catch-up-what’s-happening dinner. We decided to meet at the Alameda Brewhouse,a friendly, warm gathering place for Portlanders in the Beaumont Village area of Northeast Portland. The evening crowd was Portland non-pretentious; a gathering of different ages, sizes, and genders.
Wild Boar Tacos
On ordering, I was tempted by two intriguiging choices: The Special Wild Boar Tacos or the Salmon Gyros. I asked our waitress which she liked best, and she enthusiastically volunteered the tacos. She also quickly mentioned that the gyros were a worthy effort. I chose the tacos. Yes, the tacos truly are wild boar, according to our waitress. The boar is smoked and roasted as are all the meats prepared by the Alameda.

I started with the soup of the day,Whiskey Crab Bisque. Accompanied with fresh sourdough bread, the bisque was a flavorful tease to the tacos. The made-from-scratch bisque was tasty, warm, and comforting. After slurping the soup, I was ready for my tacos.

Dripping with juices from the boar meat, onions, and flavorings, you bite into the taco. After that delectable first bite, you stop. The flavors are so delightfully strong, that you tend to eat in smaller bites, savoring the roasted boar, onions and cheese. You’ll want to squeeze the accompanied lime slice onto the tacos to cut the heavier meat with the cleansing action of the lime juice.

For the microbrew, I chose the Irvington Juniper Porter. Alameda brews this wonderful porter with chocolate malt and black strap molasses, along with a touch of juniper spice. The result is a balanced, sweet, smooth sippin’ ale.
