Crab Cake Sandwich, Capitol City Brewing Co., Arlington, VA

On this pleasant summer day, I find myself sitting in the outdoor patio of the Shirlington Village area in Arlington. In front of me is a delicious looking crab cake sandwich. The broiled Eastern Shore Crab Cake is served on a kaiser bun and comes with Old Bay tartar sauce, cole slaw, and fries.

The crab cake is broiled to a light char on the outside. Pleasing to the eye, the sandwich invites the first bite. And I indulge. First bite wakes up the taste buds to sweet crab meat and its seasonings. Succulent with crabby goodness, the cake contains just the right amount of filler to bring out the taste without overwhelming the the chunks of crab.

While waiting for my order,  the wait person presented me with  two complimentary  pretzels with dip. A nice  touch.

For my brew, I chose the Kolsch. This gold medal winner at the Great American Beer Festival drank down with a slight maltiness to it, closer to a nice summer lager. Easy to drink on a Virginia summer afternoon, the kolsch did not overpower the delicate crab cake.

Capitol City Brewing is located on pedestrian friendly Campbell Avenue. The popular outdoor seating gives the viewer plenty of entertainment watching dogs and their people saunter by.

Capitol City's pretzels are freaking delicious! So soft, so warm! The creamy horseradish dip is amazing; second to none! Perfect with their delicious beer. My favorite is the Pale Rider ale.
