Turkey Cucumber Sandwich, Breakwater Brewing Co. Oceanside, CA

Sitting in the pleasant outside patio of Breakwater Brewing in Oceanside, I eye a hefty and attractive Turkey Cucumber Sandwich. Piled high with red onion, cheddar and feta cheese, sun dried tomato, and its namesake turkey and cucumber, this eye pleasing sandwich concoction is a delight to behold. The sandwich comes with either cole slaw, potato salad, or chips, and with a wahoo picante pepper. I chose the chips which I will eat later at the beach.

Toasted in a pizza oven, the sandwich arrived warm with melted drippy cheese. Biting into the sandwich, the sandwich released the sharp cheese flavors of cheddar and feta that blended well with the more mellow turkey.  The fresh cucumber proved cool and soothing, and contrasted well with the pungent two cheeses. The condiments of tomato and onion behaved nicely and did not overwhelm.

Wellenbrecher Lager

For my beer, I chose the house Wellenbrecher Lager.  A Vienna style lager, the Wellenbrecher drank down crispy and easily. With medium body, the beer was not so filling that it detracted from the hefty sandwich. It arrived cold and was welcomed for this warm sunny SoCal beach day.

Breakwater Brewing is a quick 5 minute walk to Oceanside's magnificent pier, where you can watch the beach crowd and its surfers. It's well worth the visit.
