Pulled Pork Banh Mi, Southern Pacific Brewing, San Francisco, CA

Following the excellent Beer by Bart directions, it is an easy and entertaining walk through San Francisco's Mission District to Southern Pacific Brewing. There one is rewarded with a refreshing brew and a really good sandwich-pulled pork banh mi.
Pulled Pork Banh Mi
Southern Pacific's version of the Vietnamese classic is house ale pulled pork with daikon slaw, sliced cucumber, a liberal (hey, it's San Francisco) serving of pickled jalapeños, shredded cheese, black garlic aioli sauce topped with cilantro, along with a side of crispy fries.

What you get is a proud mound of pulled pork piled high between two slices of french bread. On biting into the sandwich, the pulled pork proved juicy and savory, giving the taste buds a real mouth feel treat. The black garlic aioli sauce added a pleasant texture to the french bread as the cucumber and daikon slaw gave the banh mi a fresh crispness to the bite. The pickled jalapeños were wahoo! hot, so I just nibbled on the peppers. The fries were crispy and out-of-the-fryer hot. In all, the pulled pork banh mi was a satisfying and filling brewpub sandwich and certainly worth the try.

For my brew, I chose the seasonal Belgian Bastogne Blonde. The blonde drank down clean and crisp, with a pleasing citrus bite to it-a perfect complement to the heavier banh mi.

Southern Pacific Brewing is located in a cul-de-sac in the Mission District, an easy walk from the 16th Street BART station. If you are a dog lover, there are picnic tables outside with water dishes for your pooch.
