When is salmon country, you gotta go local. And here I am in British Columbia looking at a magnificent salmon sandwich called strangely the Kamikaze Burger. Irrespective of the nomenclature, this is a fine fish sandwich. Central's Kamikaze Burger is wild caught BC salmon with a mouth watering honey, soy and orange glaze, topped with tomatoes, lettuce, pea shoots, with a mild wasabi mayo dressing, all served on a brioche bun. The plate comes with your choice of fries, salad or soup. I chose the daily soup.
Kamikaze Burger
Central City gives you a hefty chunk of salmon grilled to a pleasing prettiness of a sandwich. Biting into the kamikaze, the sandwich rewards the taste buds with a tasty and succulent mouthful of tender salmon. Both sweet and briny from the glaze, the honey, soy sauce and orange glaze blends wonderfully with the meat of the salmon. The wasabi mayonnaise is notable, but not overpowering. In all, a good and filling sandwich with quality ingredients. For my side, I chose the daily soup, a warm broth chock full of vegetables, salmon (again!) and with just a hint of coconut milk: tasty and satisfying.
For my brew, I chose the Red Racer White Ale. Poured into a respectable 20 ounce glass, the White arrived with a musky, cloudy appearance. Taking a sip, the White had a crisp citrus taste to it, almost like a wheat beer. Light and refreshing, Central City's White is a pleasing beer for an equally pleasing lunch.
Central City's brewpub is located in the same building as in Simon Frazier University in Surrey. Next time you are in the area, drop by for a pleasant brewpub visit.
