believes that every neighborhood is entitled to a good brewpub, a gathering place where friends and neighbors can come together to raise a cup of kindness yet.
On Berkeley's busy Shattuck Avenue and just down the street from Triple Rock Brewery one finds Jupiter Beer, a popular brewpub for both locals and visitors. And in front of this brewpub grub visitor is the eye-appealing Galileo Pizza, a provocative concoction of artichoke hearts, spinach, mushrooms, garlic and diced roma tomatoes all on a crisp olive oil crust. Rounding out the Galileo is melted fontina and asiago cheese.
Galileo Pizza
Biting into a slice, the first sensation is the crunch of the thin crust pizza, immediately followed by the pleasantly mellow artichokes hearts. The generous topping of spinach gives the pizza a zesty touch along with the tangy garlic. The roma tomatoes add a coolness to the gooey asiago and fontina cheeses. Jupiter's pizzas are hand stretched and brick oven fired to give the pizza lover a true thin crust pizza experience. Try it the next time you are in town.
For my brew, I chose Jupiter's Helles lager. I'm finding that many brewpubs are now experimenting with lagers and I applaud their fine efforts. Jupiter's Helles arrived in a much appreciated 20 ounce glass: you know the brewer is confident in their brewing to offer their beers in such generous servings. The Helles drank down as a refreshing beer, with low hoppiness and a maltly effervescense pleasing to the taste. Easy drinking, the light bodied and low alcohol Helles went well with the Galileo pizza, even with the larger 20 ounce serving.
