Buffalo Burger with Onion Rings, SunUp Brewing Co., Phoenix, AZ

Visiting family in the Valley of the Sun, I asked my nephew his recommendations of a good brewpub for lunch. My nephew called his good friend and chef, Gino. Gino suggested SunUp Brewing and to ask for the cask condition brews that SunUp offers. So off we hustled for brew and food.

The menu offered two burger choices that caught my eye: The American Kobe Burger and the Buffalo Burger. I'm always interested in a lean burger that comes juicy as well. I decided on the Buffalo.

Buffalo Burger
The Buffalo Burger arrived in a pleasing, eye catching array of burger, onion rings and pickle. The Buffalo proved to be a moist, succulent burger with tasty juices throughout the patty. The Buffalo tasted richer and more robust than the usual beef burger. The beer battered onion rings were also a treat: crispy-crunchy on the outside, and sweet and delicate on the inside. Along with a pickle, the Buffalo Burger lunch satisfied.

For my brew, I started with a seasonal cask conditioned stout. This stout is high in alcohol, so SunUp served the drink in a smaller, snifter glass, so as not to wreck the drinker.

Cask Conditioned Stout

This stout was for sippin'. The dark malts and high alcohol content made for a rich, robust stout, that drank more like a liqueur than a stout. It's a seasonal, so you have to watch for it.

The brewpub is located in a older, renovated brick building that gives the room a nice pub feel to the visitor. There is a seven barrel system tucked behind a floor to ceiling glass wall for visual appeal. I would recommend you try SunUp the next time you are in the Valley of the Sun.
