Hoosier Tenderloin Sandwich, Oaken Barrel Brewing Co. Greenwood, IN

Continuing my quest for a brewpub tenderloin sandwich, I found myself in Oaken Barrel Brewing. They too, in true Hoosier fashion, offer a tenderloin sandwich. Oaken Barrel's sandwich is pork loin tenderized, grilled or fried, with the usual fixin's of lettuce, tomato, mayonnaise, and onion, on a grilled corn-dusted bun. I ordered the sandwich fried, of course.

The slab of pounded tenderloin is served larger than the bun it is placed on, so that your first bite into the sandwich is just the pork loin. You get all the juicy goodness of the tenderloin along with the wonderful crunch of the deep fried breading with your introduction to the Hoosier Tenderloin. And what a crunching experience it is: the breading locks in all the pork's natural juices. Yumm!  You find yourself in Hoosier Nirvana eating one of these.

For my brew, I chose the Razz-Wheat. This flavorful wheat is an award winner at the Great American Beer Festival. Brewed with Oregon raspberries, the beer complemented nicely the tenderloin: crispy tart and mildly sweet at the same time, the Razz-Wheat drank down refreshing and clean tasting to the palate.

If you are curious why pork tenderloin sandwiches are so prized in Indiana, check out the entertaining documentary film, In Search of the Famous Hoosier Breaded Pork Tenderloin Sandwich, by Jensen Rufe. In the documentary, two filmmakers search throughout Indiana for the perfect pork tenderloin sandwich. What an adventure!
