Sicilian Pizza, Snipes Mountain Brewing, Sunnyside WA

Travelling to Yakima County, home of the Fresh Hop Ale Festival, I'm in nearby Sunnyside at Snipes Mountain Brewing looking at a tantalizing lunch: a personal pan Sicilian Pizza.

The wood fired Sicilian comes rich with a hefty pile of sausage, tomatoes, peppers, and two cheeses. Biting into the pizza, the crust  has a wonderfully crunch to it, followed by the savory sausage, a generous amount of tomatoes and cheese. The blend of the salty and meaty sausage melds well with the delicate tomatoes and peppers. And the cheeses add a rich final touch to the plate. The personal pan serving is plenty for a moderate lunch: you get a medley  of flavors on a crunchy crust that are tasty and satisfying.

For my beer, I chose the unique Dos Borrachos Lager, a Mexican-American style lager. It is not often that a brewpub would experiment with a lager whose roots are south of the border. Snipes did well with this beer. The Dos Borrachos poured a hazy yellow with a fluffy white head. It drank down crisp, clean and light: exactly what a lager should do. This brew is summertime-hot-I-want-a-beer drink.

The main dining area of the pub has the ambience of a mountain lodge, with high ceilings and log beams. An impressive bar and wood burning oven complement your dining experience.

Next time you are in the Yakima valley, drop by Snipes Mountain Brewing. The Yakima Valley is the largest producer of hops in the world. And if you are in the area in the fall, make sure you check out the Fresh Hop Ale Festival, one of the country's ten best fall beer festivals. Enjoy.
