Seasoned Beef Melt, Morgan Street Brewery, St. Louis, MO

In St. Louis for a baseball game, we stopped for a quick bite before the game. Not famished, I ordered the more sensible Seasoned Beef Melt. The sandwich is lean roast beef simmered in au jus served on cheese garlic bread. The plate also comes with Morgan Street's unique potato coniques.
Seasoned Beef Melt
This is a pleasant sandwich to enjoy for a lean, yet fulfilling, meal. Dipping the end of the sandwich into its jus, the sandwich takes on the texture of savory roast beef and all the wonderful juices from its roasting. The toasted cheese garlic bread also soaks up plenty of dipping so you get a mouthful of roast beef pleasure with each dip. Morgan's Beef Melt reminds me partly of  Philippe's, the original French Dip sandwich in Chinatown, Los Angeles which brings back fond memories of good sandwiches.

The unique coniques are deep fried mashed potatoes shaped like a miniature egg or cone. Creamy on the inside and slightly browned on the outside, they are perfect for dipping along with your roast beef.

For my brew, I chose the Honey Wheat. After the beer arrived, I was glad I ordered the more modest Beef Melt. Morgan serves their beer in whopping 24 ounce mugs! Think small pitcher. Good job, guys, there will be no complaints about honest pints from this visitor.

Honey Wheat
This American style ale drank down smoothly and easily. With a medium carbonation, crisp and with a touch of citrus, the Honey Wheat cleaned the palate without any heaviness. There is a touch of honey to mellow out the wheat. Try it the next time you are in St. Louis, It is a great choice for almost anything on Morgan's menu.
