Portobello Pesto Pizza, Church Brew Works, Pittsburgh, PA

Downtown Pittsburgh and I'm sharing a pizza lunch with a long time friend. The pizza is a Portobello Pesto, which is a delicious concoction of Pennsylvania Portobellow mushrooms, basil pesto, red onion, kalamata olives, provolone and parmesan cheeses.

The pizza arrived pile high with all the toppings. Biting into slice, the thick crust gave out a welcome crackle followed by the tasty, chewy dough. Dripping with a generous strands of cheese, the Portobello mushrooms and pesto gave texture and taste to the slice. The red onions and kalamata olives added counterpoint to the mellow 'shrooms and cheese. In all, a great lunch shared with a friend.

For my brew, I chose the Wheat Pale Ale. This wheat poured with a light haze and with an amber-gold color--a pretty beer. Light bodied and little hoppy, the wheat drank down clean and easy. It's a great beer for finishing off a pizza.
