Just a few miles north of Baja California, I'm looking at un platito de Baja Style Fish Tacos. The plate of three tacos are beer battered fish, served with traditional white sauce, shredded cabbage, chipotle ranch dressing, and mixed cheese. The plate also comes with a side of black beans, tortilla chips, and two fresh lime wedges.

This is an eye pleasing lunch. I dig in. Spritzing the lime over the fish and dripping chipotle dressing on top, I wrap the soft shell taco into a bite size roll, I indulge. Beer batter crispness gives way to succulent morsels of white fish. The white sauce is pleasantly provocative to the palate, giving a happy rebound to the fish and corn tortilla. Two tacos later, along with the side of black beans and tortilla chips, I am un hombre muy contento.
For my brew, I chose the crisp tasting Heisenberg Pale Ale. This medium bodied ale went well with the tasty tacos. Slightly sweet and malty, the ale drank down smooth and easy. The next time you are in the San Diego area, you could do well to come up to La Jolla and check out La Jolla Brew House for a satisfying SoCal meal.
