Thai Yellow Curry, Squatters Pubs & Beers, Salt Lake City, UT
In front of me is a tempting bowl of Thai Yellow Curry. This colorful dish is made with Squatter's house made yellow curry, eggplant, shiitake mushrooms, lemon grass, kaffir lime leaves, and ginger along with sticky rice and steamed broccoli. You can add charbroiled organic tofu to your curry for an extra dollar or grilled chicken for an extra two. I went with the basic menu.
Thai Yellow Curry
Squatter's Yellow Curry arrived in a big bowl filled with eye pleasing frothy curry.First slurping a spoonful just to check it out, the taste came across as a thick and rich curry that has just enough bite to it to tell you that this is a really good curry. Spooning some rice and then dipping it into the bowl flavors the sticky rice nicely. And dipping the broccoli into the curry brings out pleasant competing flavors of dark greens and creamy curry. If you like curries, try Squatters. This is a unique menu item that is not often found in a brewpub.
For my brew I chose the Vienna Light Lager made by the Salt Lake Brewing Company, which shares the same building with Squatters and whose brewing tanks can be seen through large glass windows in the restaurant. The lager drank down with a crisp and clean taste. There was a slight citrusy taste to it that reminded me of lemon. And with a medium body, the Vienna Light Lager was not too heavy to overwhelm the delicate spices of the dish. In all, a delectable pub experience.
