Fish and Chips, Elevation 66 Brewing Co., El Cerrito, CA

Following the handy Beer by Bart directions, the Elevation 66 Brewing Company is a quick walk from the El Cerrito Plaza Station. There after a thoughtful review of the menu, I order the always pub standby: Fish and Chips along the required pint of brew. The plate comes with two pieces of fish, a generous mound of beer batter fries and ponzu aioli dipping sauce.
Fish and Chips
The fish and chips arrived piping hot right from the fryer. The first bite crunches through the crispy beer batter and into a mouthful of steaming succulent fish. The next morsel I dip into the magnificent ponzu aioli sauce. Creamy textured, the sauce rewards the taste buds with a mild garlic experience. Splashing malt vinegar over the fries, I get a sour/salt combination over the crunchy fries. I gobble up a handful a handful of them. Continue and repeat with fish and fries until done.

For my brew, I chose the East Bay IPA. This west coast style IPA cleans the palate perfectly with the deep fried fish. Citrusy and with a good, pleasant hoppiness, the IPA is balanced enough accent the sweet malts.

In late afternoon, the brewpub fills with the local Regulars, bumping fists to start their afternoon catch up. It's always a good sign in a brewpub if Everybody knows your name: Elevation 66 is a neighborhood pub and worth the visit. Drop by when you can.
