Brewpub Grub: Tandoori Chicken Pizza, McMenamins Edgefield, Troutdale, OR

Sitting outside with my son in the patio at McMenamins Edgefield on a magnificent Oregon summer day, we check out the menu. So many tempting choices and only one meal to eat. I opt for the day's special: Tandoori Chicken Pizza. My son chose the always remarkable Communication Breakdown Burger.

Tandoori Chicken Pizza

The pizza arrived covered with chicken tenders, red onions, sweet peppers, mozzarella cheese, cilantro, and Major Grey's Chutney. On first bite, I notice the sweet, tangy taste of the chutney, followed by the Indian spiced tandoori chicken while the red onions play along nicely with the crisp green peppers. The gooey mozzarella lends an authentic pizza experience to the crunchy crust. The tandoori chicken pizza is a special, so if you get a chance, certainly indulge yourself. It's a good pizza.

Communication Breakdown Burger

My son chose the grilled Communication Breakdown burger. The Communication is a one-third pound of natural beef patty and comes with Tillamook Cheddar Cheese, mushrooms, onions, and bell peppers. The burger comes with a choice of fresh cut fries, tater tots, small green salad or a cup of soup. I've had this burger before and it's a great burger if you are a burger lover. I am.

For my brew, the pub had a price special 50-50. What you get is your choice of two craft beers blended together for a discounted price. I chose two low alcohol beers: the Hammerhead Northwest pale ale and the Zest for Life Wheat. The 50-50 session beers went down cleanly and easily and were suitable for patio sitting on a warm summer day.

The Edgefield campus is ranked by Condé Nast Traveler in 2013 as one of the "Best Farm-to-Table Restaurants in the Pacific NW". Drop by when you can.
