Mediterranean Pizza, Fate Brewing Co., Scottsdale, AZ

In Scottsdale, Popular Fate Brewing is known for its wood fired pizzas along with their great brews. Their pizza secret: Fate's signature hot oil dribbled on the pie. For lunch, I chose the 12 inch thin crust Mediterranean. The Mediterranean comes with baby spinach, kalamata olives, feta and mozzarella cheese, roasted tomatoes and artichoke hearts with garlic olive oil. The hot oil comes separately so you can add as much or little as you like.

First taste sensation is the kalamata olives, brined and succulently good, followed by a really good crispy crust. Next, I dribble the hot oil over the pie. It's worth the experiment. The oil is perfect, and not overpowering at all. The hot oil accents all the other wonderful ingredients and releases all their exuberant flavors: tomatoes, spinach, and the feta and mozzarella.

For my brew, I chose Fate's Brown Ale. Medium bodied and with a pleasant mouthfeel, the Brown drank down easily and smoothly. Hop taste is subtle and clean. In all, a nice quaffing beer to complement a really good pizza.

A great brew pub with a loyal clientele. Visit when you can.
