Steamed Lamb Buns |
And what an adventure it is! What makes this dish is the kimchi cucumbers. Crunchy and slightly pickled, the firm kimchi cucumbers had the required sourness that puckered the mouth. At second bite, a slight and pleasant burn to the tongue told the palate that, indeed, the kimchi is the conductor to the lamb orchestra. The soft morsels of lamb were seasoned carnitas style, not overpowering, but playing nicely with the kimchi. In all, the steamed lamb buns were a rewarding light lunch.
For my brew, I asked the personable waiter what he would recommend. I mentioned that I'd like a sipping brew, something in the order of a barley wine. He suggested Stone's Double Bastard Ale. This American style ale is-as he calls it-Stone's famous Arrogant Bastard Ale on steroids.
Served in an 8 ounce tulip glass, this hefty ale packs a whopping 11.2 percent alcohol by volume. Sweet, malty, and with a moderate hop taste, the Double Bastard drank down slowly, perfect for a few moments of after-lunch quiet sipping.
The staff at Stone Brewing is friendly and knows their menu and beer. If you want to know more about their offerings, just ask.
